Vivid Highight | Recommended Day Out
Things To Do (Published: 10 January 2009)
A highight for any Lanzarote holiday must be a visit to what was Cesar Manrique's house, known as 'El Taro de Tahiche'. It is built over five lava bubbles, each converted into an elegant room, and a 'jameo'. In the underground level, sculpted from each lava bubble are five distinct rooms; the fountain room, the white room, the red room, the black room and the yellow room. The lava bubbles are roughly eight metres across and five metres high, open and decorated with the same colour as their names. On the inside of the 'jameo', Cesar Manrique built a pool of deep, blue water to the same design as that of Los Jameos del Agua, though of a smaller size. In the upper level, in what previously were the rooms in the house, are now the galleries of the museum where the work of Manrique is on display, as well as other works by other prominent artists. Today, 'El Taro de Tahiche' acts as the base for the Cesar Manrique Foundation, is a beautiful place where the exterior landscape and modern designs are combined for you to enjoy the peace and tranquility.
